In 1997, after the death of our parents, we decided to create the Carnot Foundation in memory of our father, Lazare Carnot.
The Carnot family, through the generations has passed on very strong human and education values to its descendants. Faithful to this tradition, our father passed on these values to us which we are now passing on. The Foundation is active in the domains which our father believed in – education in the fields of culture and science.
One of the Foundation’s first initiative was to finance the establishment of a «History of Technical and Industrial Heritage Chair» at the Ecole du Louvre. In parallel we created the Collection Carnot, dedicated to the publication of books on “Men, Ideas and Means of Modernity, late 18th to early 20th century”. Now we are concentrating on granting Fellowships and career guidance to: young art conservators and curators who graduated from the Institut national du patrimoine, recently graduated scientists from the Ecole Polytechnique and doctoral graduates from the Université de Bourgogne. These Fellowships are unique opportunities to pursue projects outside of France.
An association of former Fellows and a mentoring network have been created to offer guidance to new Fellows at the beginning of their career.
