Son of Lazare Carnot and Marie-Rose née Francoy
He went to the Lycée Janson-de-Sailly in Paris before studying Physics at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland) .
He started his professional career at Rhône-Poulenc Textile as manufacturing engineer raising to the position of Business Plan Director. In 1970 he co-founded the Compagnie Financière de Développement, a company that acquired, restructured and then sold small and middle size enterprises.
In 1978 he moved to Geneva, Switzerland with his family and joined the Société Privée de Gérance where he started and developed the firm’s American real estate activities. In parallel he took over Landauer Associates one of the oldest American commercial real estate company.
In 1984, Gaëtan Carnot created his own wealth management company, IncaVal in Geneva. In 1989, he took over and merged into IncaVal the international business of the First National Bank of Chicago (Geneva). As a result of its success and size IncaVal obtained a Swiss bank license and became IncaBank (International Capital Bank).
In 1997 he sold IncaBank and regrouped its activities in a family office where he continues to invest in a broadly diversified portfolio of assets, whether directly or indirectly.
In parallel to his professional activities, in memory of their father, he creates, together with his sisters, the Fondation Carnot under the aegis of the Fondation de France.
Married to Elisabeth née Sauvy since 1965 he has 3 children: Isabelle (Madame Bruno Delale), Lionel and Stéphane and 11 grand-children.
